Nanaimo Correctional Centre Replacement – Canem Systems Industrial Photography & Videography
This video showcases the Nanaimo Correctional Centre (NCC) replacement project on Vancouver Island, a modern correctional facility that opened in 2024 to replace the original 70-year-old institution. Designed as a campus-style complex, the new centre consists of eleven buildings that create a more supportive environment focused on rehabilitation, safety, mental health services, and successful reintegration into the community.
The facility incorporates improved natural light, less institutional interior environments, expanded programming areas, and advanced building infrastructure that supports the evolving needs of BC Corrections.
This project represents a significant upgrade to correctional infrastructure on Vancouver Island and demonstrates the collaboration required to deliver complex public-sector developments in Canada.
Project Highlights:
• Campus-inspired facility design prioritizing safety and rehabilitation
• Secure custody spaces for open, medium, and secure classifications
• Advanced electrical, mechanical, and integrated building systems
• Expanded programming and mental health support environments
• Major infrastructure upgrade for Vancouver Island correctional services
Canem Systems played an integral role in the project, delivering electrical, mechanical, communications, and integrated systems solutions. Working alongside design-builder Bird Construction and other project partners, the team helped create a secure and technologically advanced environment designed to improve operations and inmate support services.
